G.fast Is Coming!

G.fast will soon transform the UK’s broadband landscape.

It will be possible for businesses to receive download speeds of more than 300Mbps using their existing copper phone lines, and at a cost that is similar to their existing fibre broadband product.

Once trials have been completed, it will be deployed at scale and speed throughout the UK. Make sure you don’t miss out on this revolutionary new product and register your interest now. We will notify you when it becomes available to your location.

What is G.fast?

G.fast is looking like the next leap in internet technology. It brings the speed of fibre over copper lines. It works in the same way as fibre broadband does now, by sending a signal over your copper phone line to a street cabinet, and then over fibre optic cables back to the local exchange. The current issue with fibre broadband has been the ‘last mile’ or the copper part between your premises and cabinet. Copper has previously limited the transmission of data.

As with standard (copper/ADSL) and fibre broadband, the best speeds are reserved for those closer to a street cabinet (less than 500m) and a recent test delivered 300Mbps over 350m copper line. G.fast requires significantly more spectrum (G.fast 106MHz+ vs VDSL 17MHz) and thus operates best over a much shorter run of copper cable.

However, a traditional fibre enabled street cabinet is not always required. They can also be distributed via small nodes, built either underground (manholes) or placed on top of nearby telegraph poles. This could make it available to more remote locations.

Don’t miss out!

We are notifying businesses when G.fast is available to them. Just provide some basic details and we’ll do the same for you.

Customers want their broadband to be affordable as well as fast and we will be able to do that using G.fast.

Can I get G.fast?

It could soon become commercially available and some trials have already taken place. Openreach announced two large scale pilots in Cherry Hinton, Cambridgeshire and Gillingham, Kent. Once the infrastructure has been built, 25,000 homes and businesses in these areas will be able to access download speeds of up to 330Mbps using G.fast from their nearest street cabinet.

A technical test is currently being performed in Swansea and a number of locations around the UK are set to test the technology in January 2017. These areas will be able to purchase G.fast from service providers. UK-wide roll-out should follow soon afterwards. If we had to guess, this could be as early as 2018.

Fibre Broadband

Also known as FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet), fibre broadband continues to be rolled our across the UK and offers download speeds of up to 80Mbps, but this will vary depending on how far away your business is from the fibre enabled street cabinet. We have three fibre broadband products available so you don’t pay for bandwidth or data you don’t need.

  • 40Mbps and 80Mbps downloads
  • 10Mbps and 20Mbps uploads
  • 12 and 24 month terms
  • Business hours support
  • Static IP addresses
  • 100Gb and unlimited data options
  • WiFi enabled router
  • No charge for a phone line
  • Installation charges may apply
From £39.99/month

Benefits of G.fast

G.fast is being touted as THE product that will be used across the UK for many years to come. It’s also future looking with tests of next level XG.fast having already taken place. It broke records by delivering aggregate speeds of 5.6Gbps over 35 metres of BT copper cable. But that’s the future. What are the benefits of G.fast now?

  • Expect downloads of over 300Mbps
  • Faster upload speeds than fibre broadband
  • 500Mbps at 200-300 meters from cabinet is possible
  • Can be bonded to deliver twice the bandwidth
  • Priced alongside fibre broadband products
  • No installation works required*
  • Very quick installation times
  • Suitable for most types of business
  • With a G.fast node it could reach rural businesses
  • Gateway to a XG-fast future

*Businesses who do not have fibre broadband may require Openreach to install a G.fast node closer to their premises to enable them to receive a G.fast service.
